About Me

Prophet Muhammad is always claimed by his followers as the bearer of the last religion, namely Islam. It is believed that this religion is different from what was previously carried by Prophets and Messengers of God. According to them, those Prophets and Messengers before Prophet Muhammad taught imperfect religions, and only religion brought by Prophet Muhammad was perfect. This is a doctrine that is implanted in the minds of people who called themselves as the Prophet Muhammad’s followers or who commonly called themselves Muslims.

One thing that need to be asserted, Islam is in fact the name of din (legal system) constituted by God, which has never undergone changes, either in its basic principles of faith (aqidah) or the laws (shari’a). The only din that is blessed by God is only din al-Islam, which is the one He taught to all His Prophets and Messengers.

The following verses we quote come from the Qur’an which contains the statements of God about the din (millah; religion) held and taught by Prophet Muhammad was not a new religion or a new concept. In fact, it was the same one that God gave to Prophet Abraham, which followed by other Prophets afterwards. Prophet Muhammad himself explicitly stated to his people and to the world that he was a follower of millah Abraham hanif (pure), he also included a reaffirmation of Prophet Abraham as a person who had never associated God. At that time, this affirmation was released in connection with several allegations, accusing Prophet Abraham as being a musyrikun.

a.              The Qur’an surah Al-An'am (6) verse 161:

Say, "Indeed, my Lord has guided me to the right path - a righteous din - the millah of Abraham, the true din. And he was not among those who associated others with God."

Then We revealed to you, [O Muhammad], “follow the millah of Abraham, a man who is hanif” ; and he was not of those who associate with God.

c.                   The Qur' an surah an-Nisa (4) verse 125

And who is better in dīn than one who sincerely surrenders himself to God while being a
doer of good and follows millah of Abraham, the true path? And God took Abraham to be His favourite.
d.                  The Qur' an surah Al-Imran (3) verse 95 :

Say, " God has told the truth. So, follow the millah of Abraham, the true path; and Abraham was not those who associate God.”

e.                   The Qur' an surah al-Hajj (22) verse 78 :

And strive for God with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the din any difficulty. [It is] the millah of your father, Abraham. God named you all “Muslims” before [in former Holy Books] and in this [the Qur’an] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So, establish sholat and pay zakah and hold on to the rope of God. He is your protector; and he is the best protector, and an excellent helper.

Likewise, the shari’a (law) that commanded by God to Prophet Muhammad was the law that was ordered to Prophet Noah , Abraham , Moses, and Jesus. This is confirmed in the following surah ash-Shura (42) verse 13:

He has ordained for you of din (religion) what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the din (religion) and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with God is that to which you invite them. God chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns [to Him].

From the verses above, it can be concluded that Prophet Muhammad only continued the persistent vision and mission of the message of millah Abraham taught to Prophet Abraham as “the trunk of the vine of God”. Prophet Muhammad was one of its branches, where the whole nature and characteristics of him were identical with the “main trunk of the tree”. Millah Abraham is different to millah Judaism and millah Christianity, the last two are actually broken twigs from the trunk; or teachings that have deviated from true monotheism and millah Abraham, the system of God’s law. These broken twigs will eventually dry up and die along with “the leaves that attached to it”. The question is what about Moslems and Islam today? Are they still muslim hanif or have they turned into a deviated millah?

When we look at the condition of Moslems in this country and the world today, we can see that they are in groups, separated, no longer united, and disintegrated. Socially, their religious activities are no difference from those in Judaism and Christianity, which are full with rituals and have forgotten that din al-Islam as a legal system that needs to be fully up righted and implemented. At present, all living systems used by Moslems are mainly oriented to the West and East systems that are not in accordance with the true system of millah Abraham. The cause of this disunity is due to the aqidah of mankind’s has deviated from the true monotheism (tauhid).

The explanation above illustrates the characteristics of the teachings of monotheism (tauhid), where it is not divided and uniform. Every Prophet only delegates God on the earth, as a God’s Ambassador for the prosperity of the earth and for sustaining human social life. Moreover, the law of God that carried by the Prophets will never change despite the times, places, and people they face are different. For these reasons, millah of Abraham is the only true path, a way of life that can be used to bridge the religious differences amongst the spiritual children of Abraham, in Jews, Christians and Moslems.
It is understandable why God harshly quipped those who did not accept or hate Millah Abraham. He emphasized that only a fool who refuses Millah Abraham as a way of life, the concept of the truth. This assertion is expressed in the Qur’an surah al-Baqarah (2) verse 130:

And who would be averse to the millah of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.

It is clear that Prophet Muhammad was the successor and follower of Millah Abraham. Millah Abraham is the true path of God the Almighty. That is the same path used by the previous Prophets and Messengers before him. Today, we the defendants and the spiritual generation of Millah Abraham are just following and continuing the same mission that was exemplified by Prophet Muhammad. When the Indonesian Ulema Council issued a fatwa (opinion) stated that the ism and teachings of Millah Abraham were heretical and misleading, it meant that they considered Prophet Muhammad and his companions as a deviant community for being the follower of Millah Abraham.

We the defendants, wish to inherit, continue and follow everything that has been exemplified by the Prophets of God, especially Prophet Muhammad. Is not he a role model for the believers? Is not that God Himself who commands the believers to follow Prophet Muhammad? Please consider the Word of God in the Qur’an surah Al-Ahzab (33) verse 21 of the following :

There has certainly been for you in the Prophet of God an excellent example for anyone whose hope (mercy) is in God and the Day of Judgment and [who] remembers God frequently.

This is in line with the statement of God in surah Al-Mumtahanah (60) verse 6 as follows:

Verily in them (Abraham and his people) there is a good example for you; for those who expect ( reward) God and ( salvation) later. And whosoever turns away, verily God, He is the Most Rich, praiseworthy.

Similarly, in surah of Ali Imran (3) verse 31 explains that humans should imitate the life of the Prophet.

Say, “If you love God, then follow me (Muhammad), and God will love you, and will forgive you your sins.” God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Follow the example and do the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad are a must for those who believe in God and the Prophet. Therefore, those who wish to follow the sunnah of the Prophet properly cannot not be judged and accused of being deviant. Indeed, it

would be better to introspect yourself than to judge others. Another point that should be underlined is that Millah Abraham (Millah Ibrahim) is not the same with Millah Judaism or Millah Christianity, as stated in the Qur’an that Prophet Abraham was neither a Jew nor Christian. Let us take a look the following verses carefully:

And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, and you will be guided. ” Say, “No, we even follow millah Abraham, the truth; he was not an idolater.” Say, “We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the Prophets—from their Lord. We do not discriminate between any of them, and to Him we surrender.” [Al-Baqarah ( 2): 134-135]

And the affirmation that Prophet Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian can be seen in the following verse :

Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true believer who submitted (to God). And he was not one of the mushrikun. The people most deserving of Abraham are those who followed him, and this Prophet, and those who believe. God is the Guardian of the believers [QS. Ali ‘Imrân (3): 67-68]

It is about the time for the Jews, Christians and Moslems to sit together, to discuss matters of principles from the same theological roots, with the purpose of returning to the original teachings , the millah Abraham as the vine of God. To build a unity of faith in mankind, especially for the generation of Abraham's faith (the spiritual children of Abraham) who will become a spring for religious peace, world peace, and harmony of the universe.
